Dear Rev. Canon Lewis

I am doing some research on the scouts within the village and was wondering if you could relay anything you may remenber from the time you lived in the village?

I know there was a group in the 20’s and 30’s from other sources, and also am lead to believe there was a scout hut at the far end of Durham Road.

Any information would be appreciated.

For my ’sins’ i am the Scout Master in the village now and was a scout there during the 1970’s.

i was at aycliffe approved scool from approx 1956 to 1959 and would like to here from anyone who was there at that period.mr gittens,mr bell are two of staff i can remember!

The approved school changed into Aycliffe Young People’s Centre and a Secure Unit was opened. It is still known by many residents of the Village and Newton Aycliffe as “The ‘Proovy”

Just a comment re the article titled Fundraising, this particular event was 2006.In 2007 the Pink ladies raised £1500 and in 2008 it was nearly £2000 all for Breast Cancer Care.

Why has the name of Aycliffe Approved School been eliminated from the history of the Aycliffe area? I recall there were something like 100 boys there and my number was No. 81. Can any one add further information to this matter?

Our webmaster worked at the “proovie” (Secure Unit) for 11 years.

Yup they were at it again on 31st October.. Raising funds for the Village Hall itself. The Grottos were marvellous and alot of effort was put into each one. The winner was a joint effort by residents of Heighington Street.
Once again we can only thank the community for their support.

Another Fantastic Fund Raiser for Breast Cancer Care was Held in the village Hall on Thursday 30th October 2008. More than £1950 was made on the evening and donations are still being recieved.
The event is hosted by Joy Marie Hair Design and the Pink Ladies.
Tickets have alerady been reserved for next Years event..
Well done and thank you to all who supported this event.
